Southern Railway commemorated the 68th Railway Week last month, on February 9th, 2024, with an award ceremony titled “Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar 2023.” Held at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Arangam, ICF, Chennai, the event saw Shri R.N. Singh, the General Manager of Southern Railway, distribute Shields and individual awards to various divisions, departments, workshops, officers, and staff in recognition of their outstanding contributions and performances.

In his address, Shri Singh lauded the awardees for their significant role in enhancing the growth and efficiency of the Railways. He commended both the divisions and workshops for their exemplary efforts, and highlighted Southern Railway’s achievements as a frontrunner in project commissioning, infrastructure upgrades, increased sectional speeds, modern coach introductions, improved passenger amenities, and enhanced onboard services.

A video showcasing the Railway’s accomplishments during the previous year (2022-23) was presented during the ceremony. The event also featured a cultural program comprising classical dances and music performed by staff and their families.

Key Awards and Recognitions:

• The General Manager’s Inter Divisional Overall Efficiency Shield went to Chennai Division, with Tiruchchirappalli Division claiming the runner-up position.
• 38 Efficiency Shields were awarded to different divisions, workshops, and units for excelling in various areas of railway operations.
• 17 officers and 82 staff members received individual awards for their meritorious performance.

This celebration served as a testament to the dedication and hard work of Southern Railway’s personnel, showcasing their commitment to continuous improvement and delivering exceptional service to passengers.
