Shreyanka Patil: Spin, Spirit & Second Chances

India off-spinner Shreyanka Patil is one of the brightest young stars in women’s cricket today. With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 kicking off this month in England, this is her moment—and she has spent her whole career preparing for it.
From injury and uncertainty to confidence, comebacks, and cricketing dreams, Shreyanka Patil is writing her next innings with courage.
Shreyanka Patil grew up watching cricket. She watched with the kind of loyalty that makes every moment personal and every trophy sweeter. Years later, she found herself on the field in the middle of a final, bowling for a team she had long admired.
“I don’t think I’ll ever forget those moments after the win. I’ve not celebrated anything as much as I celebrated that win,” she shares.

The Long Way Back
Before the Purple Cap and the 13 wickets and the title, there was an injury. The kind that takes you off the field long enough to start questioning everything you knew about yourself.
Shreyanka is clear that recovery is never just physical. “Physically, you trust the doctors and the rehab process, but mentally there’s always fear—whether your body will feel the same again, whether you’ll come back as the same player,” she says.
She describes shutting herself out completely during that phase, unusual for someone bubbly by nature. What pulled her through was simpler than any training programme. She adds, “Sometimes just having someone listen to you makes a huge difference mentally.”
Looking back, she believes the experience taught her something equally important: it is okay to not be okay all the time. Recovery forced her to open up, lean on the people around her and appreciate the support system that carried her through some of the toughest months of her career. What began as a physical rehabilitation process ultimately made her mentally stronger too.

Finding Her Game
Before the injury and the comeback, there was a younger Shreyanka trying medium pace, then leg spin, before off-spin declared itself the obvious answer. She frames that period not as confusion but as freedom.
She shares, “There was no pressure of ‘this is what I have to be.’ Eventually, off-spin felt the most natural to me, and that’s how I slowly built confidence in my own game.”
Experimenting with different bowling styles taught her to trust her instincts. Rather than chasing a fixed identity, she focused on staying involved in the game and allowing her strengths to emerge naturally.
That instinct to trust herself has stayed.
For Shreyanka, success is simple. “It’s about winning matches for the team I represent,” she says. Statistics matter, but the real measure is impact—contributing to victories and making a difference in important moments.
Off the field, she says, her life is surprisingly simple. “I love being around people, spending quality time with friends and family, and just enjoying small moments.”

317
Her fragrance line is called 317, after the 17th of March, a date she will carry with her forever. The idea was to bottle a moment, and scent felt like the most honest way to do that.
She has always connected memories with emotions, places and even smells. “Sometimes you smell something and immediately remember a moment from years ago,” she says. For her, fragrance became a way of preserving memories that might otherwise fade with time.
A portion of 317 supports young female cricketers through the SP31 Foundation. Five years ago, she wrote ‘academy for the underprivileged’ on her vision board. It sat there until she had the means to make it real.
“I know there’s so much talent in women’s cricket, but not everyone has access to the right opportunities. If I am able to help even a few young girls take that next step, it would genuinely mean a lot to me,” the young cricketer says.
For Shreyanka, building something beyond cricket is not about creating a separate identity. It is about creating opportunities for others and giving back to the game that has given her so much.

What Comes Next
The T20 World Cup. The 2028 Olympics. A gold medal for India. Shreyanka names these dreams without hesitation. They are just the next things on the list.
Representing Karnataka carries special meaning for her.
“Karnataka cricket has always set very high standards. I want to do my bit to help Karnataka women’s cricket become one of the top teams in the country and create a legacy of its own.”
The beginning is not what she is focused on.
“I feel like I’ve had a good beginning to my journey in top-level cricket,” she says. “Now it’s about stepping up, being more impactful and dominating this level.”
The comeback is complete. The next challenge is consistency.
For one of India’s brightest young cricketers, the next chapter may only be getting started.
