This yummy, creamy South Indian chutney is an impromptu from my mother’s kitchen. This recipe was handed down to me to make my sad pandemic quarantine healthier and interesting, and is my go-to when I’m tired and lazy to cook, and goes amazingly well with any Indian bread, Dosa, Idly or paniyaram. The Avarakkai Chutney (Tamil for Indian Broad Beans chutney) was created keeping in mind our daily essential needs of protein and is great to boost your immunity.

Ingredients:

● Indian Broad beans – 100gms
● Onions and Tomatoes – 2 small pieces each (optional)
● Urad dhal – 2 tbsp
● Salt to taste
● Red chilli or chilli powder to taste
● Garam masala to taste
● Coriander and turmeric powder – 1 pinch each
● Tamarind – half a lemon size
● Curry leaves to temper
● Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp

How to make it?

● Roughly chop up the Indian Broad Beans, or Avarakkai (Onions and tomatoes is necessary) and saute in a pan with some salt, red chilli/chilli powder, garam masala, coriander powder, turmeric powder and tamarind till soft with some urad dhal.
● Let it cool down before blending it in your mixer finely.
● Temper it with some mustard seeds and curry leaves and serve with any Indian bread, Dosa, Idly or Paniyarams and enjoy your healthy deliciousness!
