Semmozhi Poonga, a botanical garden in Chennai set up and maintained by the Horticulture and Agricultural department of the Government of Tamil Nadu. This place was a huge hit amongst the Chennai crowd and pulled in a lot of crowds as it is more economical and engaging.

Followed by this the Tholkappia Poonga in Raja Annamalai Puram is open to the public at a cost. This project was taken up by the Chennai River Restoration Trust (CCRRT). This project is one of the initiatives to restore and maintain the fragile ecosystem of Adyar. The Adyar estuary and creek’s delicate ecosystem is intended to be restored and safeguarded. It is a tropical jungle, and there are mangrove trees along the creek.

This is a wonderful, beautifully maintained eco-park in the heart of the city, where you can find peace, tranquillity, and beautiful wildlife for a very low admission price. The ecosystem of the park is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. It is observed that about 90 species of birds, 10 species of mammals, 25 species of reptiles/amphibians, 56 species of butterflies, and 20 species of dragonflies have been reported in and around this park. The park, has 160 different types of trees, attracting both tourists and locals.

Numerous birds, including Pelicans, Egrets, Cormorants, Spot-billed ducks, Herons, and Swamp Hens, were visible to us. Additionally, there are many snails, butterflies, and red beetles. This park’s lakes cover more than 65% of its surface area. The guided tour costs 20 rupees per person and has to be registered on the official website. It is open on Tuesday and Thursday from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm, and on Saturday from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm and 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm. The number of visitors allowed is limited to 60 pax. To ensure the place is not crowded or misused. This tour is guided by the staff members of the Adyar Eco park. Do enjoy the nature walk at Chennai’s restored hidden beauty.
