These are some of the watch worthy astronomical events of May and June 2023 that you can witness with your naked eye!

  • May 17th – Close approach of the Moon and Jupiter, making their positions appear closer than usual.
  • May 17th – Venus is at the HIGHEST altitude in the evening sky, that is, the planet would appear at a different altitude form the usual position.
  • May 24th – The Conjunction of the Moon and Mars mark its close proximity around each other.
  • May 29th – Mercury will be at its greatest elongation in the west, making it the farthest from the Sun. Due to this phenomenon, Mercury would appear closer to the Earth, and thus, would be visible in the evening and night sky for the naked eye, or with binoculars.
  • June 3rd – Mercury at the highest altitude in the morning right before sunrise or around dusk.
  • June 22nd – The Conjunction of the Moon and Venus marks a close proximity of the Moon and Venus.
  • June 27th – Bootid Meteor Shower, or the June Bootids are a group of meteors which the Earth passes annually during its orbit. Unfortunately, this is one of the most underrated meteor showers.

Enjoy these astronomical marvels with your loved ones and be prepared to get your socks knocked off!
